The Department of Physics ( https://www.phy.ncu.edu.tw ) at National Central University in Taoyuan, Taiwan, invites applications for tenure-track positions with the appointment starting on August 1, 2026. Applicants in all areas of physics are welcome. Successful candidates are expected to establish a strong and independent research program, obtain research funding, commit to excellent teaching, and supervise students.

The 8th International Conference on the Initial Stages in High-Energy Nuclear Collisions (Initial Stages 2025)

will take place in Taipei, Taiwan, from September 7 to 12, 2025.

This conference will bring together experts to discuss the latest experimental results from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The program will cover recent advancements in theoretical tools aimed at predicting and interpreting phenomena observed in experiments and plans for future experimental facilities, including the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) and Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR).

Key topics of focus will include:

Partonic structure of protons and nuclei
Physics at low-x and gluon saturation
The initial stages and nuclear structure in heavy-ion collisions

A Century of Quantum Mechanics: Advancing Future Technologies – 2025 World Quantum Day Science Fair in Taiwan

Since its development in the early 20th century, quantum mechanics has become a cornerstone of modern technology, driving breakthroughs and innovations in information technology, precision measurement, materials science, and beyond. To inspire a greater understanding of the fascinating world of quantum physics, scientists worldwide established World Quantum Day (April 14), choosing this date as a tribute to Planck’s constant (h ≈ 4.14 × 10^-15 eV·s), a fundamental concept in quantum mechanics. Every year on April 14, academic institutions, research organizations, and educational groups around the globe participate in this celebration by hosting lectures, science exhibitions, workshops, and public discussions, bringing quantum science closer to society.

The year 2025 marks the 100th anniversary of modern quantum mechanics, an occasion recognized by UNESCO and the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ). This global milestone aims to commemorate the historical development of quantum physics, explore its future technological applications, and engage more people in this scientific revolution.

In response to this worldwide celebration, the Physical Society of Taiwan (TPS), the Physics Research Promotion Center of Taiwan (PRPC), and the National Taiwan Science Education Center will jointly host the "2025 Quantum Centennial – World Quantum Day Science Fair." This event will bring together leading quantum experts and research institutions across Taiwan, featuring interactive exhibits and hands-on activities designed to unveil the mysteries of quantum physics. 【Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Quantum Mechanics: Chunghwa Post Issues Commemorative Stamps】

In 2025, marking the 100th anniversary of quantum mechanics, UNESCO officially designated this year as the "International Year of Quantum Science and Technology," to honor the revolutionary contributions of quantum science and technology to human technological advancement. To commemorate this scientific milestone, Chunghwa Post will issue a limited-edition "The Miniature Sheet of Quantum Science and Technology Stamps" on April 14, World Quantum Day. This release is not only a tribute to quantum science but also a look forward to the future of scientific exploration.

The limited-edition miniature sheet features gold foil stamping and is meticulously printed by a French printing house. Embracing the new Quantum Era — 2025 International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ) Taiwan Series

To celebrate the 2025 International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ) and commemorate the 100th anniversary of quantum mechanics, the Physical Society of Taiwan (TPS) has been actively organizing a series of preparatory outreach activities since 2024. These events aim to promote the understanding and application of quantum science, allowing the public to gain deeper insights into the historical evolution of quantum mechanics and its profound impact on modern technology and everyday life. These preparatory activities include hands-on quantum experiments, the “One-Day Quantum Scientist” high school program, and the screening and discussion of the popular science short film Game On. As we enter 2025, TPS will introduce an even more extensive series of educational and outreach activities, including exhibitions, lectures, workshops, and competitions. These programs will engage people of all ages in exploring the wonders of quantum science.
