【Postdoctoral Position in Experimental Neutrino Physics 】

The Experimental Neutrino Physics Group at National Taiwan University (NTU) invites applications for a postdoctoral research position focusing on the LEGEND experiment. LEGEND seeks to uncover the nature of neutrinos and measure the effective Majorana neutrino mass by observing the rare neutrinoless double beta decay in 76Ge. As a two-phase project based at the Gran Sasso National Laboratory in Italy, LEGEND employs enriched high-purity germanium (HPGe) diodes both as the decay source and as signal detectors, achieving exceptional detection efficiency. The detectors are immersed in liquid argon (LAr), which also functions as an active veto system to identify the rare decay events while minimizing background noise.
At NTU, our group is developing an on-site LAr facility within the department to study next-generation wavelength-shifting materials and investigate HPGe detector characteristics in cryogenic environments. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of this facility, from design and setup to operation.

Qualifications:
• A recent PhD in experimental nuclear, particle, atomic, or accelerator physics. Candidates expecting to complete their PhD within three months are also encouraged to apply.
• Knowledge of neutrino physics and several years of graduate-level hardware experience in one of the above fields.
• Experience with cryogenic systems, optical sensors (e.g., silicon photomultipliers), Ge detectors, low-background counting, statistical data analyses, and Monte Carlo simulations is highly advantageous.

Applications process:
Please submit your application by email to Asst. Prof. Dr. Pin-Jung Chiu at pin-jung.chiu@phys.ntu.edu.tw, including the following documents:
• Cover letter
• Statement of research experience and interests
• Detailed curriculum vitae, including a list of publications
• Copies of final university degree certificates
Additionally, please arrange for two letters of recommendation to be sent to the same address. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.

【講題】Physics of Multicellular Systems【時間】1/20(二) 14:00

【演講者】Professor Masaki Sano(Department of Physics, School of Science, The University of Tokyo)
【摘要】As all living organisms are composed of cells, cellular research is indispensable to understanding life. Consequently, efforts to understand the behavior of cells and populations of cells from a physics perspective are advancing. When addressing mechanical aspects such as cell motility and forces, it has become clear that the behavior of cell populations shows greater agreement between theory and experiment than that of single cells. This involves physical principles such as symmetry and the dominance of slow variables. This lecture addresses two problems concerning cells. One is the behavior of monolayers formed by motile cells, and the other is the problem of growing cell aggregates (organoids). Animals form their morphology during development by creating cavities (lumens) within cell aggregates and folding the resulting monolayers inward. Therefore, understanding the dynamics of monolayers and cavity formation within cell aggregates forms the foundation of cell collective research. This lecture introduces two studies:① Research investigating the role of directional order and topological defects in cell sheets, deriving a continuum model from individual cell movements and interactions, and comparing it with experiments.② Research examining the mechanism by which a central lumen forms in organoids growing from a few cells, while the monolayer remains stable during growth, through a comparison of a model and experiments【接待人】Dr. Tetsuya Hiraiwa 平岩徹也副研究員 (中央研究院物理研究所)

【Announcement】The 24th Taiwan-Japan–Korea Symposium on Strongly Correlated Electron SystemsDate: March 05-07, 2026Venue: Meeting Room, QFord, 2nd Floor, College of Science Teaching Building, NCKU.Website: (Link)Registration Deadline: January 15, 2026 (Registration)Abstract Deadline: January 15, 2026Introduction:The 24th Taiwan-Japan-Korea Symposium on Strongly Correlated Electron System will be held at National Cheng Kung University, Tainan, Taiwan, from March 5 to March 7, 2026. This series is an annual trilateral scientific meeting that originated as a bilateral workshop between Korean and Japanese researchers focused on strongly correlated materials. With the increasing contributions from Taiwan in this field, the workshop evolved into a trilateral symposium, reflecting the vibrant and growing research activities across all three countries. This symposium serves as a collaborative platform for discussing recent progress in strongly correlated systems and emergent quantum materials. Topics commonly addressed include exotic superconductors for next-generation quantum technologies, frustrated magnetism linked to quantum spin liquids, spin-charge-lattice coupled systems for ultrafast electronic switching, spin-orbit-driven phenomena relevant to topological quantum computation, topological states with robust edge transport, multiferroics for non-volatile memory applications, thermoelectric materials for energy harvesting, and low-dimensional or interface-engineered systems with novel functionalities in nanoelectronics. Emphasis is placed on recent experimental and theoretical advances that deepen the understanding of strongly correlated materials, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and international exchange among both established and early-career researchers.Key topicsExotic superconductors and unconventional superconductivityFrustrated magnetism and quantum spin liquidsSpin-charge-lattice coupling phenomenaSpin-orbit coupling effects and related emergent behaviorsTopological phases and topological quantum computationMultiferroics and novel ferroic materialsThermoelectric and energy-harvesting materialsLow-dimensional materials and two-dimensional heterostructuresSurface and interface phenomena in correlated systemsAdvanced spectroscopic and theoretical approaches in correlated electron physicsKeynote Speakers:Cheong, Sang-Wook (Rutgers University, USA)Fujimori, Atsushi (National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan)Tjeng, Liu Hao (Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids, Germany)Invited Speakers:Chang, Tay-Rong (National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan)Cho, Gil Young (KAIST, Korea)Han, Myung Joon (KAIST, Korea)Hariki, Atsushi (Osaka Metropolitan University, Japan)Hsu, Yu-Te (National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan)Huang, Di-Jing (National Synchrotron Radiation Research Center, Taiwan)Huang, Hsiao-Yu (National Synchrotron Radiation Research Center, Taiwan)Katsufuji, Takuro (Waseda University, Japan)Kim, Beom Hyun (Seoul National University, Korea)Kim, Kee Hoon (Seoul National University, Korea)Kimura, Tsuyoshi (University of Tokyo, Japan)Kochan, Denis (National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan)Li, Wei-Li (Academia Sinica, Taiwan)Moon, Eun-Gook (KAIST, Korea)Okamoto, Yoshihiko (University of Tokyo, Japan)Park, Jae Hoon (POSTECH, Korea)Park, Sungkyun (Pusan National University, Korea)Sakai, Hideaki (Tohoku/Osaka University, Japan)Takagi, Hidenori (Max Planck Institute, Germany/NIMS, Japan)Tseng, Yi (National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, Taiwan)Watanabe, Hikaru (Hokkaido University, Japan)Yu, Jaejun (Seoul National University, Korea)Contact:Prof. Jan-Chi Yang: janchiyang@phys.ncku.edu.twAda wu: 10307021@gs.ncku.edu.tw
